The cognitive, motor, and psychological benefits of a play tunnel – personal experience!

When I think back to my son's baby years, I always have to smile. He was a little whirlwind and had his own unique ways of exploring the world. Crawling? He simply skipped it! Instead, he preferred to move around by sliding sideways on his bottom – an image that still makes me laugh today, haha. But looking back, I have to honestly say that back then, I didn't realize how important crawling was for a child's development. I'm wiser now – and that's exactly why I want to share this knowledge with you.
Why crawling is so important
Crawling is far more than just a transitional phase on the path to walking. It promotes development in many areas:
-
Cross-over movements train the brain: Crawling coordinates the right and left sides of the body. These movements promote cooperation between the two hemispheres of the brain and form the basis for many important skills such as concentration, reading, writing, and even swimming.
-
Strengthening muscles and motor skills: Crawling not only strengthens the leg and arm muscles, but also improves body tension and balance.
-
Independence and curiosity: Babies learn to discover the world independently, overcome obstacles and perceive their surroundings from a completely new perspective.
Our personal story
When my son was a toddler—and later at school age—I noticed that he had difficulty concentrating and was very fidgety. He also had a hard time learning to swim and keep his head above water, and he also had trouble holding a pencil correctly. At the time, I didn't yet recognize the connection between his missed crawling phase and his motor and cognitive development.
But a few months ago, we started working with an evolutionary educator. She subsequently practiced cross-over movements with him to strengthen the neural connections in his brain. And let me tell you: It's impressive how quickly he's made such a developmental leap! He's now much calmer and more balanced. These simple exercises have not only helped him concentrate more on his work, but also with learning to swim :)
That was the moment for me when I thought, "I want to spread this awareness to other parents." Because sometimes it's the little things that have a big impact—and crawling is definitely one of them.
That's why we developed the play tunnel
Our new play tunnel is not just a toy, but a lovingly designed product that supports the motor, cognitive and psychological development of babies and toddlers.
Why is a play tunnel so valuable?
-
It encourages babies to crawl, move around and practice cross-over movements.
-
It encourages creativity – children can crawl through it, hide, build caves and invent new games.
-
The clear structure and movement in the tunnel create a feeling of security and self-confidence.
Our play tunnel is made from 100% natural cotton and lovingly crafted to ensure it's not only playful, but also safe and sustainable. It was especially important to me that our products promote children's development – and are fun at the same time! We've also replaced the traditional straps with Velcro fasteners, making it quick and easy to fold and store.
What I would like to share with other parents
If I've learned anything from my own experience, it's how important movement is in early childhood. Crawling, creeping, rolling—all of this lays the foundation for so many skills our children will need later on. It's not about being perfect or doing everything "right." But sometimes a conscious cue—like a play tunnel—can make a big difference.
So let your little ones crawl, roll, and explore! Because playing is learning – and a play tunnel can help in so many ways!
With love and enthusiasm,
your Martina from LIONHERZ
